FAQs

Can I order a left hand model?

Yes, any model can be made as a left hand model at no additional charge. Just contact us when placing the order.

Are the guitars set-up?

Each guitar is professionally set-up at the Altamira factory. Additionally, Buzz Gravelle personally plays each fretless guitar when they arrive to G&G Guitars to check for consistency and quality before shipping them out to customers. However, please take into account that different climates and humidity levels when your new guitar arrives can cause subtle variations in set-up as a new guitar settles into a new climate.

Is the neck of a fretless guitar stable without frets?

The low tension of nylon strings means that the neck will be stable without frets. However, the Basico+, N200+, and N400+ models include an adjustable truss rod, and the N600+ model includes a non-adjustable carbon-fiber truss rod in the neck for additional stability.

Are there fret markers on the guitars?

Yes, each model will list the fret dot configuration on it’s own product page. However, if you pre-order a guitar fret dot markers will be added to the top of the neck at your request. They can be placed on every position up to the 12th position, at the 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 9th positions, or not included at all. Most beginning guitarists or people new to fretless guitar have them placed on every position. Buzz, personally, has them on the 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 9th and 12th positions. You will indicate your preference in the checkout process of ordering your guitar.

Is there a cutaway option?

Yes, any model guitar can be made as a cutaway for an additional $75. You choose this option in the checkout process of pre-ordering your guitar.

Does the guitar come with a case?

Yes, all guitars come with with either a gig bag or a high-quality Altamira soft shell case that offers a medium level of protection. We also sell a 50% carbon fiber case that offers a very high level of protection.

Is the fingerboard of the fretless guitars epoxied?

The fingerboards are not epoxied. However, if you would like an epoxied fingerboard it can be done when your guitar is built for an additional $100. An epoxied fingerboard creates a harder surface which aids sustain. It also adds a clear, reflective sheen to the look of the fingerboard.

What strings should I use?

This is a matter of preference. All Altamira fretless guitars come with D’Addario ProArte medium tension strings. We will soon be offering for sale a variety of popular string choices for fretless guitar.

How is the string action set?

String action is set at the Altamira factory at 3/32nd of an inch (as measured from the fingerboard to the bottom of the string) at the 12th position for the high 1st string and at 4/32nd of an inch at the 12th position for the low 6th string. This is common classical guitar string action height and is optimal for fretless classical guitar.

Are the guitars covered by warranty?

Altamira fretless guitars purchased through G&G Guitars are guaranteed from any defects of manufacturing up to one year from the delivery date of the guitar, not including normal wear and tear.
